The royals are reportedly planning to ditch the costly renovations that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did to their home in England, Frogmore Cottage. The Sussexes moved into the “cottage” after their wedding and spent £2.4 million renovating it with money borrowed from the Sovereign Grant, which they very promptly paid back.

As a spokesperson for the couple said in 2020, “A contribution has been made to the Sovereign Grant by The Duke of Sussex. This contribution, as originally offered by Prince Harry, has fully covered the necessary renovation costs of Frogmore Cottage, a property of Her Majesty The Queen.…”

Harry and Meghan used the money in part to convert Frogmore from two semi-detached houses into one home, and plans are underway to potentially subdivide the property again.

Per a source, “It’s been empty for three years. Even Andrew thought it wasn’t good enough for him to move in. Maybe if they get rid of any trace of Harry and Meghan, then someone within the royal household will fancy it. It would draw the line under Frogmore Cottage’s controversial history and return it to the pre-Meghan and Harry era.”
Harry and Meghan moved out of Frogmore Cottage after they stepped away from senior royal duties and moved to Canada (before settling down in the United States). They retained the home base in England for a while, and were then reportedly “evicted” by the royals after the publication of Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare.
